We put the “FUN” into bookkeeping FUNdamentals
I’m an accountant. Believe me, I’ve heard all the jokes. The only way that accountants avoid being the butt of more jokes is because there are lawyers and lawyer jokes. If there weren’t lawyers, all the lawyer jokes would be made about accountants.
I admit that the field is not known for its excitement and thrilling adventure.
Well, that might be the stereotype of the accounting field, but it’s not how we operate around here. If you can’t have a little fun at what you do, it’s not worth doing.
At IAC-EZ, we strive to find the perfect balance between lighthearted fun and serious business. Our approach to our work, and the way we interact with each other (and with our customers) should be fun. The smiles might be free at McDonalds, but at IAC-EZ, the smiles are free, and so is the laughter. And we’ll even credit you with a guffaw from time to time at no additional charge.
At the same time, though, we treat your business’ numbers and your information’s security with the utmost seriousness. It’s no laughing matter! So when we want to talk about that stuff, we put on our drab gray suits (which don’t go well with my eyes), fill our pocket protectors, and enter the Cone of Silence where we grimace and nod thoughtfully and talk about secretive things.
And then, when we’ve finished with that important work, the Cone of Silence lifts, we change into our Bermuda shorts and party hats, and we enter the Cone of Happiness where we laugh and joke and do the rest of our work.
Why do we take this approach? Well, it’s fun – duh! But when we make work a joy to be at, it no longer feels like work. Employees WANT to be here. We WANT to go the extra mile for our customers. And that puts us into some kind of minority percentile.
The Boy Scouts promised to leave a place cleaner than when they found it. (Or so I’ve heard; I was never a Boy Scout… obviously). At IAC-EZ, we’ll try to leave a place happier than when we found it.
