We’re so excited about our latest release, version 1.5. We call it “You Rang” because it reflects many of the requests and enhancements that you specifically asked for… and it comes at a time of the year when a lot of bells ring. (Seasonal movie quote: “every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings”).

So, here’s what we’ve created for you in this release:

New Features
You’ve asked for it, you’ve got it! We’ve brought in some account-based features for those of you who choose to use the account-based method of bookkeeping instead of the transactional-based method. (But hey, if you’re happy with the transactional-based method, you don’t need to switch).

Specifically, you’ll be able to…

Add your balance sheet accounts

See your balance sheet

Add your bank accounts

Reconcile your accounts

Track your balances

Show your account on your dashboard

And, you’ll also be able to remove archived, viewed messages.

All these changes have also necessitated a change in…

User Interface
The User Interface has been updated because we had to squeeze in all of these really cool features somewhere. We busted out the shoehorn we got in our stocking and made it fit!

Sneak Peak at 1.51/Tax Time!
As we gaze into our crystal ball for the new year, we are sorry to point out that it’s tax time. But, to help make tax time easier and maybe a wee bit more fun, our upcoming release – release 1.51 – will be related to tax time.

Are we there yet? Yes we are!

It’s been a long haul, but Version 1.49 (or as we like to call it, Round Trip) has arrived.

So here is what this means for you:

User Interface improvements
We’ve made a few tweaks here and there as part of the ongoing evolution to enhance your IAC-EZ experience. You may notice them, you may not. But they’re there either way.

FreshBooks Enhancements
Your journey from IAC-EZ to Freshbooks and back is now a roundtrip! You can now make changes to your FreshBooks imported data inside of IAC-EZ, and the accounts will sync automatically! No more having to open both accounts to make that adjustment.

Now, this does give the leaf icon new meaning. Instead of meaning “export to FreshBooks”, it now means “in sync with FreshBooks”. To protect your data, any category that is already in sync, will need to still be changed in FreshBooks.

So now you can go ahead and change that number! It’s so EZ!!

SurePayroll Integration
Do you use SurePayroll? We now offer you the TSV file format for importing and exporting your information to and from IAC-EZ. Just look under Import and Export for the SurePayroll center.

For those of you who are not familiar with SurePayroll, they are an online payroll processor for small businesses. They allow you to add the current hours, offer direct deposit solutions, and take care of your tax filings to make your payroll processing EZ! You can check out their site and information at http://www.surepayroll.com.

New Features
As if the above improvements, enhancements and integration weren’t enough, there are all sorts of additional new things you can do thanks to Roundtrip:

You can now view your past messages in your User Message Center.

You can now choose how many rows of data to view on a page.

You can now remove an attachment before saving.

You now have an option for invoices to read “Tax Invoice”.

You can add fax and account numbers to all contacts and CSV files.

You can now choose Cayman Dollars ($KYD) as your currency.

You can now import and export CSV files for mileage.

You can now undo your last CSV import.

Sneak Peak at v1.50
I know you’re probably thinking, “Wow! How could IAC-EZ get much better?” Well, for those who have been asking politely and patiently waiting, with v1.50 we are adding new account-based features!

We’ve just released a new version today. Technically, it’s called v1.48 but that’s boring. So we’re also calling it “Whoa!” because that’s what you’ll shout with excitement when you see what we’ve come up with for this version. (It’s also what you’d shout if you happened to be in this carriage in Salt Lake City this past Saturday).

So, here’s what’s exciting about this release:

User interface upgrades
Lots of user interface improvements: Some are tiny tweaks; some are a little bigger. But we always make lots of them because we love to find ways to make it just a bit easier for you. We’ve tested these changes, of course, but occasionally someone uses a rare browser configuration that we haven’t tested, so let us know if you have any complications while you’re clicking around.

Freshbooks enhancements
We made two major changes with Freshbooks.

The one you’ll notice is this: You can import an assigned vendor when you make Freshbooks expense import.

The other one you won’t notice is this: We’ve made some changes to the Freshbooks utility to improve how things sync up. It’s one of those tweaks that you may never see but it will improve your Freshbooks/IAC-EZ experience.

New features
We’ve got a few new features that will make your bookkeeping even easier:

You can now see sub-category details on reports! When viewing your P&L report, you used to only be able to see the main categories. That’s okay for an overview but not useful if you want to see a breakdown. So now, your P& L details that out for you. (For example, if you’ve created a sub-category for paper clips, it used to be lumped in with other office supplies in the main office supply category but now it will show up in your P&L report as “paper clips” to make it clearer for you.)

We’ve added another currency: United Emirates Dirhams (AED) is now included so all of the United Emirates oil exporters who use IAC-EZ can finally use their own currency!

When you import a CSV file, you can now process multiple items at once.

Sometimes when you need help, it can be hard work to describe what you were doing when an issue arose. So you can now grant access to customer support to take a look at your account and help you. It’s a checkbox you can click to give Customer Support access to your account to help you. You have full control so you can click it if you want to grant access and then unclick it when you don’t.

There’s also a new message center that allows you to mark messages as viewed so you can keep your screen clear of messages you’ve already read. (And don’t forget, you can choose your preferences to receive status message under “edit your account”).

Minor fixes and adjustments

You asked for less scrolling, so here it is! We’ve implemented resolution supporting 1024 x 768.

Drop down menus are now sorted by date so you can find what you’re looking for faster.

We’ve added new accounts in the Chart of Accounts payroll section to make it more useful to those of you who have employees.

We’ve developed a new Flash uploader so you can upload multiple attachments at once. (Talk about multitasking!)

Unassigned entries will no longer remain in the list after being processed.

Payments will show up on the edit screen so you can see all of the information at once when you edit an invoice.

Protection is now in place from changing vital data on a saved item: So, no worries about making changes where we don’t warn you first!

We updated the headers on the PDF report downloads. Looks nicer now.

State taxes estimates
We’ve added tax estimates for Vermont, South Dakota, Utah, Rhode Island, Wyoming State, and Washington DC (so Obama can do his bookkeeping if he wants to).

And guess what! We’re done with the states. All of them have tax estimates now. Yippee!!!

And there’s more coming!

We have a whole bunch more improvements, changes, and upgrades in the pipeline. Version 1.49 will include SurePayroll integration, as well as lots of other exciting features.

We’ve just unveiled a shiny new update: Version 1.47/Shoeboxes made easy!

Here are all of the awesome things you get in this version:

New Features

Integration with www.shoeboxed.com. While some of IAC-EZ’s users will scan and upload their data themselves, many of our users use ShoeBoxed to scan and enter data. And now that data can be imported to IAC-EZ! Everything from receipts to business cards.

Recurring bills over different intervals. You asked for it, you’ve got it! Not all recurring bills are monthly. You can now set recurring bills at 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 18 month, 2 year and 3 year intervals!

Don’t lose your place! This is another “you asked for it, you got it” feature: After entering something and hitting submit, you don’t go back to the beginning but rather you return to where you were when you performed the action. It might seem like a small thing but it’s a huge timesaver. Now here’s an important note: If we missed a spot, let us know. There are lots of places this submit-and-return action can take place and we THINK we got them all (but there might be one still hidden in there somewhere). Drop us a line so we can fix it: Support@iacez.com

Minor Fixes or Adjustments

Mileage Total on the fly. We used to have it set up so that you’d only enter your total mileage. But what if you want to add a mile every time your odometer clicks? (LOL, or, more practically, what if you want to add mileage at the end of every leg or whenever you fill up with gas?). Now you can! You can add mileage on the fly and it will add to your total.

Taxes

We’ve added Iowa, Montana, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Alaska State Tax estimates. Former Governor Palin can now esimate her own taxes.

Sneak Preview for Version 1.48

Great news! We’re nearly done with the state tax estimates! In version 1.48, we’ll be adding our final batch of state tax estimates for Washington DC, Vermont, South Dakota, Utah, Rhode Island and Wyoming. And now that we’ll have all of them complete, perhaps the good folks in our nation’s capitol will want to balance the nation’s books using IAC-EZ? Just a thought. Let us know because we don’t currently have enough space for “trillions” of dollars… but we’ll see what we can do if you need it.

Also in Version 1.48 we will be releasing the first of many steps toward account based bookkeeping. We love transactional bookkeeping (after all, that’s what makes IAC-EZ so “EZ”). However, we have developed a completely optional and non-intrusive way for you to perform standard account based bookkeeping if you want.

There are lots of great things we can’t wait for you to see!

User Interface improvements:

We just made some small tweaks here or there to improve your experience. You might notice them, you might not. But they’re there.

New features:

This is exciting! We gave you mileage tracking functions and then we went the extra mile. (Pun intended). Now you can track your mileage through your browser (and we even have a mobile browser edition, too, so you can track from your mobile device in your car… just DON’T do it while you’re driving!)

Minor fixes/adjustments:

Fiscal Year is now enabled for Home Page and for Taxes.

You can now delete unused Sales Tax Types and Bundles.

You’ll now see parent categories when using sub-categories (in various views).

These might not be adjustments worth writing home about but we’re happy to make IAC-EZ even more EZ for you!

State tax estimates

State tax estimates are available for Idaho, Arkansas, Maine, Mississippi, Delaware, and Kentucky (home of “the Colonel” and his finger-lickin’ chicken).

We’re not slouches! We’ve already started working on version 1.47:

Our friends in the following states will get state tax estimates: Iowa, Montana, Alaska, Louisiana and North Dakota (which contains the geographic center of the continent, so that makes you pretty special). When we drive to visit any of these states, we can now record our mileage!

But wait, that’s not all! We’ve also rolled up our poly-cotton blend sleeves and started working on an entirely new integration. Yeah, we know that you want to know what it is. But we’re not going to tell you. It’s like Christmas: you’ll just have to wait. Unveiling in only 2 weeks!

Users will have noticed that a few days ago, we just implemented our latest update – version 1.45. Here are the details you’ve all been clamoring to know (although you can always find them at the bottom of your screen when you’re in your account).

Here are the highlights:

User Interface:

Just part of the ongoing evolution to improve your experience. Just a few tweaks here or there. Frankly, you might or might not notice them. This is an ongoing effort based on how we see users interacting with the site so it’s usually less-than-dramatic. (If it were dramatic, we’d report it here).

New Features:

We’ve added a search box so you can search entries by date or name. Finally! That obscure $2 business donation from your grandmother can be rediscovered.

You can change your fiscal year (on the company preferences page) so that you can adjust your fiscal year to report the right period.

Fixes and adjustments:

State Tax estimates:
We’ve added Alabama, Kansas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Hawaii (home of Magnum PI, the greatest show on television).

Want to know what’s coming up for version 1.46? All kinds of great stuff!
Kentucky, Idaho, Arkansas, Maine, Mississipi, and Delaware (Home of the Twelve-mile circle, the only true arc political boundary in the US. Read more about this piece of national trivia here.) And you will also enjoy your sales tax bundles functioning for your incoming entries as well; not just your invoices!

How awesome is version 1.46? It’s so awesome we’ve called it “Burning Rubber” because of an amazing feature that we’re keeping a secret until its release!

Version 1.44 landed officially on June 16 and here’s what it includes:

Changes to the user interface. Nothing crazy; nothing to make you think “now where did they put that link”? Just little things that make your experience better. A tweak here, a nudge there.

Adjustment to sales tax defaults. You can now override sales tax defaults on a by-invoice basis. So if you need to change the sales tax, you can do so. (But the IRS is watching, so make sure you have a good reason).

When you’re exporting entries to Freshbooks, we now default to the specific client as recorded in IAC-EZ. No more figuring out who’s who.

Your Profit and Loss Report now has subtotals. Here’s to more profit and less loss. Oh, and when you export your P&L statement into PDF? We made some changes so that it will look better, too.

And, we now have sales tax estimates for Arizona, Missouri, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Nevada, and Oklahoma (”O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A, Oklahoma, OK!”)

What’s on the agenda for version 1.45?

You’ll enjoy better search features, more report enhancements, and sales tax estimates for Nebraska, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Kansas (the state, not the band), and Alabama (the state, not the band).

And here’s a little something extra, because we care:

If you’re a fan of Kansas (the band, not the state) watch them sing one of one my favorite songs here:

Buckle up, kids, because the ride just got way more exciting.

With every release of IAC-EZ, we want to make your experience so much better. We realize we’re talking about bookkeeping software here, but if we can make it easier for you then well go home happy at the end of the day.

We’re excited about the release of version 1.43, which went live on May 30th. Here’s what you will see in this release:

There are minor tweaks to our interface. This is something we always do to improve the user experience. Nothing major to report; in fact, you might not even notice the changes, but they’re there, subtly making your bookkeeping EZ.

We’ve also made some minor changes that allow you to merge contacts, to see billable expenses that have not been billed when invoicing, and to track referrals and commissions.

And, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Minnesota now have tax estimates… so if Norm Coleman and Al Franken ever figure out which one of them represents Minnesota in the Senate, they can do their books in IAC-EZ and we’ll be able to provide them with accurate estimates.

And now for the big reveal: [Drumroll please]

Abracadabra… Mr. Networth has waved his magic wand and given you the ability to create invoices, right in your account!

Some of you use sites like Freshbooks or Cashboard – the invoicing gurus. They are good sites with lots of functionality. But some of you don’t need all those bells and whistles, and some of you want the convenience of keeping all of your bookkeeping functions together in one place. IAC-EZ lets you do just that right from our EZ-to-use interface. Click here to check out a sample of an invoice.

Over time, we plan to build out additional functionality that you’ll find helpful when creating invoices, so be sure to email us at support@iacez.com to request features that you’d like to have available when invoicing.

And if version 1.43 isn’t exciting enough, we’ve already started working on version 1.44, which will include auto entering, improved formatting, and state tax estimates for Oklahoma, Nevada, Missouri, Arizona, New Hampshire and “Almost Heaven” West Virginia!

… Add new categories right from the “Entries to Process” tab?
… Split up invoices into multiple invoice lines and apply different categories to each?
… Split up entries into multiple lines with different categories?
… Split up bills into multiple lines with different categories?

Now you can with the just-gone-live Version 1.42 release. We’ve called this the “Do the Splits” release because several of the changes we’ve made enable you to split information across several categories.

So, let’s say that that you are a renaissance man (or woman) and provide freelance writing, freelance logo design, and freelance web design from one company. You’ve had a client that wanted all three services and you invoiced them at the end of the project for all three… but you want to keep it nice and separate in your records. You can do that, and apply a different category for each.

And let’s say that the same customer sends you one check for all of the work you’ve done. Now you can split that single entry up across different lines and categorize each appropriately.

And maybe you want to associate some of your bills with one service but not another. You can do that, now, too.

Of course, this is just one example of ways that you can use the features in our new “Do the Splits” release. Take a moment to think about how you might use it effectively in your business.

Oh, and don’t forget about the other awesome changes we’ve made:

We ironed out a Freshbooks importing issue that we weren’t 100% happy with. And we made a few small design changes as we watch the interface in action and try to evolve it to your needs.

And if you’re from Colorado, Ohio and Connecticut, congratulations. Not only are your states great places to live, but you can also now access state tax estimates in this release!

If all these changes weren’t enough, we’ve already started on Version 1.43, which we’ve dubbed “Just Got Cooler”. There will be state tax estimates for New Jersey (home of perennially good looking rocker Bon Jovi!), Massachusetts and Minnesota. You’ll also get other functions, too, including the ability to merge contacts into one. And, we’ve got one super-duper, as-secret-as-James-Bond feature that is going to leave you shaken and stirred (in a good way).

You’re probably sitting down already (because you’re furiously preparing your taxes the day before the deadline), but if you’re not, you’d better find a chair.

Today is the day we’re unveiling (cue drumroll):

Version 1.4

We’ve been working furiously around the clock for the past few weeks (that’s not an exaggeration) to get this version ready to implement. And trust me, you haven’t seen anything like it. There are many changes, but you’ll be interested to know the ones that most affect you:

Let’s start with the most obvious change – the interface. It looks gorgeous. It maintains the clean, fresh look that people love about IAC-EZ, but combines it with a very user-friendly (and fun!) use of icons so you can more easily find what you’re looking for.

We’ve also simplified the importing and exporting process with a single import/export link so you don’t have to click here to import one thing and click there to export something else.

You’re already familiar with smart tags for each entry, invoice, and bill, but now we’re also including a tag cloud in each case to make it even easier to find what you’re looking for.

Now, you can associate expenses to two contacts; for example, to clients to which they are billable and to vendors to which they are paid. And you can mark your expenses as billable to specific clients. (Shout out to my outsourcing clients).

Contacts can now be saved under multiple categories, so if you have a vendor who also buys from you, you don’t have to enter their info twice.

We’ve also made category entry easier – just start typing an entry and the category and the line will jump right to the correct category… no more sorting through the list!

Changes to your CSV importing is now easier. You can rename a CSV file upon import. CSVs can now handle 2 column imports (debits/credits) for those banks that report in multiple columns. CSVs now support negative and positive numbers rather than absolute value. You can add tags to CSV transactions at the time of import.

State Tax Estimates have been added for Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Oregon (Go Beavs!)

And if all those thrilling changes weren’t enough, we also made some minor fixes, tweaks, adjustments, and general improvements on:

Flash uploader for multiple attachment uploads.

Recurring entries (incoming and outgoing) to track auto-charges and auto-debits and credits from bank accounts (which previously only supported recurring bills).

As well, for our FreshBooks users, you can now associate Freshbooks expenses to a billable client and the vendor to which they were paid; the PO field is now imported on invoices; and, you an edit the income category on imported invoices.

We are so excited to bring version 1.4 to you, and we know you’ll love the changes as much as we loved dreaming them up and implementing them! And guess what… we’ve already started on v1.5 and we’ve got some exciting changes there! (Hint: You’ll be able to split transactions into multiple accounts, and we’re working on a mileage feature, too!)

Jessica Routier, IAC-EZ
